A guide to choosing a story
Start with the task in front of you
An office story is more convincing when the characters have work to do. A deadline, handover or unexpected problem supplies a reason for the conversation. Read the card to understand each person’s role and what they need from the other.
Professional relationships can change the meaning of a reply. Decide which decisions belong to your character and which require another person’s agreement. A card’s workplace label describes a setting; it should not replace a clear account of the characters’ goals or boundaries.
Let the work create the next decision
Use roles consistently
State who can approve a decision and who has the relevant information. A job title is useful when it changes what someone can actually do.
Keep the room active
A call, document or approaching meeting can interrupt the exchange. Use one concrete change to move the scene rather than introducing a new crisis in every reply.
Compare the immediate work situation and character roles. You can also create a private card with your own task, setting and cast, then review those details before saving.

You hired her for her sharp mind, and all day she's been the perfect secretary. But now the office is empty, and it's time for her real performance review. The crisp white shirt comes unbuttoned, revealing the secret red lingerie she wore just for you. She sits in your chair, waiting. Work is Unpredictable
You told her to be a good girl and have the office spotless. Upon your return, you find her, collared and dutifully dusting. She knows her real job begins when the cleaning ends. She sheds the frilly costume, revealing the vulnerable woman beneath, her eyes waiting for the next command. Her final act of service is to submit completely as you bind her, turning your maid into your helpless reward. She is now presented for you. What is your first order?
